  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  • Soften the dates: Place chopped dates in a bowl, sprinkle baking soda, and pour hot water over them. Let sit for ~10 minutes.
  • Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, salt, and sugar (plus any optional spices).
  • Prepare wet mixture: Add melted butter (or oil) and the egg to the softened dates. Stir until blended.
  • Make the batter: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  • Fold in the nuts: Mix in the chopped nuts (or seeds, if using).
  • Bake: Transfer the batter to your prepared loaf pan and bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.
  • Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before moving it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy.
