Equipment

  • Small bowl or cup for whisking
  • Whisk or milk frother
  • Small saucepan or microwave-safe container for warming milk
  • Mug or tall glass (for iced version)

Ingredients

  • 1 –2 teaspoons matcha powder ceremonial or culinary grade
  • 2 tablespoons hot water about 170°F–180°F
  • 1 cup milk dairy or plant-based
  • 1 –2 teaspoons sweetener optional, to taste

(Optional) A drop of vanilla extract, a pinch of cinnamon, or other flavor add-ins

Instructions

  • Whisk Matcha: In a bowl, combine matcha powder with hot water. Whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion until all lumps dissolve.
  • Warm Milk: Heat milk on the stovetop or microwave until hot but not boiling (about 150°F–160°F).
  • Sweeten and Stir: Stir your sweetener into the warm milk. Pour this sweetened milk into the whisked matcha mixture.
  • Froth (Optional): If desired, use a milk frother for extra foam before serving.
  • Enjoy Hot or Iced: Serve immediately as a hot latte or let it cool and pour over ice for a refreshing treat.

Notes

If you need a sugar-free version, use pure matcha powder and opt for unsweetened milk. Add a zero-calorie sweetener if desired.
